Moderation Centre
Moderation screens
The Vizcops monitor all chat in the rooms and all private messages 24/7, 365 days a year. Nothing can be said on the site that is not seen by a moderator. The chat streams through the moderation screens live, as it appears on screen.
The Filter
At Vizwoz we have a very powerful chat filter. This filter:-
- stops the vast majority of offensive language or language that would not be deemed appropriate for our target audience
- prevents personal detail exchange such as emails, addresses and other personal information.
If a user uses inappropriate words or tries to exchange details the filter will prevent their message being seen by other users and the Vizcops are alerted that there is a situation to be monitored.
Of course, language develops and there are new ways of saying things emerging all of the time, so here at Vizwoz first thing every morning the filter is reviewed and new terms and expressions are added. This makes the filter a powerful, evolving tool for ensuring children are safe and comfortable online at Vizwoz. This is pro-active moderation; we don't just wait for a problem to arise, we work to prevent it happening in the first place.
Investigation Screen
If a vizcop sees a comment or situation that needs investigating they simply click on the comment on screen and it launches an investigation screen. This screen then allows the Vizcop to classify the offence that has been committed and send a message telling the user that they have done something wrong. The messages are there to help users reflect on their behavior and to educate them to become better online citizens at Vizwoz and better citizens in their communities. If the offence is serious or the user is disturbing other users then a ban will be issued immediately.
If a user feels threatened or needs help they can press the "report abuse" button (Click Here to see the report interface) and this will lead to an investigation and, where necessary, action against users being taken from the moderation centre.
